IBS is a common disorder affecting the large intestine. Symptoms can include cramping, pain, bloating, constipation and diarrhoea. Anyone experiencing these symptoms should see a Doctor to rule out a physical cause; but often it’s a condition made worse by stress and anxiety. I was first diagnosed with IBS 17 years ago whilst going through a period of stress. I’ve since found however that relaxation and stress management make a huge difference.
A number of clinical studies have found hypnotherapy to be an effective treatment for IBS and as a result, hypnotherapy is recognised by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) for the treatment of IBS. Suggested benefits include improved well-being and quality of life, as well as reduced constipation, diarrhoea, bloating and abdominal pain.
